Walking "The Way of the Gull" - but hopefully not as flat-footed

A chance winter browsing through the walking section in Penrith library alerted me to the Raad Ny Foillan
( Manx for The Way of the Gull ) - a  95 mile footpath around the coastline of the Isle of Man. Although born and bred in Lancashire, to my shame I have never set  foot on the island off it's coast - so this is now to be remedied. Geoff is coming on this walk, as is my cousin Liz and her husband Brian, who has been delegated logistics - shuffling 2 cars so we have one at the start and end of each day's walking.

Tuesday April 6th : Set off from home mid-morning to catch the early afternoon ferry from Heysham near Morecambe, calling in on route for coffee at Nigel Edmondson's, and to leave him boxes of Potfest fliers to distribute at the Harrogate Craft trade fair. By the time the ferry left port the weather had deteriorated, it was very windy, raining, there was quite a heavy swell, and for the next 4 hours we needed sea-legs as well as walking legs.

Uninspiring first view of Douglas harbour - through the rain.
Our base for the first 4 days is to be at Port Erin on the south-west coast - where we'll meet up with Liz and Brian - they came over on an earlier Sea-Cat and have been wandering the cold bleak streets of Douglas for the past 2 hours. By the time we were driving through the Manx countryside though the rain had cleared and it was all looking good. There wasn't much time to see Port Erin as we were straight into the B& B, then out for dinner as everywhere seems to close before eight.
