Day 5 - Agra and the Taj Mahal. Many, many monuments

Rowdy school-children, mosquitoes and the early-morning call to the Mosque made for an interesting nights sleep. After breakfast ( take it as read that it was some form of curry, toast and marmalade) we set out on foot from the hotel to walk the kilometre and a half to the Taj Mahal. No food to be taken into the grounds so the Murray mints had to be concealed under Geoff's hat - to be consumed later on the bench so beloved of the paparazzi and Princess Di.

First of the many group photos ........

......with the Taj as majestic backdrop
Fine monument but a little cold and clinical for Kevin's liking. The highlight of Nigel's day was a monkey attacking an American lady, and her husband shouting at her to for god's sake give it 50 rupees. We retreated from the crowds at the Taj, and after lunch the coach took us across the river to see the Himad-ud-Daulah's Tomb - otherwise known as the Baby Taj ( overall favourite of the day ) followed then by the Chini Ka Rauza ( China Tomb ) with its tiled exterior.

A new line in temple footwear at the Baby Taj...........

........appalled the locals

Wall tile detail at the China Tomb

Local pots drying out in the village just by the China Tomb.
Templed out we went shopping.
